The sky above Lake Harriet
is high-definition clear,
But you know what’s coming.
Almost.

Winter is like the flu.
You can’t fully imagine it
on a healthy day,
but when it strikes, you’ll remember.

Better find a project
and bring the comforters
up from the basement.
Is there anything that can be done
about the draughts in the living room?
Not really? Well, we might as well
settle into our hibernations.

As long as there are coffee, books,
wine and movies we’ll persevere.
The luckiest of us will be content
to observe the transformation,
share our beds with someone kind
and be grateful their calendars
aren’t scribbled over with obligations.
